After living in Los Angeles for more than 25 years, Hollywood royalty Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne are packing their bags and leaving. In 2015, the pair purchased their Los Angeles home for a reported $12 million, and in July 2022, listed the Hancock Park estate for $18 million, then reduced the asking price to $12.5 million in October 2022.The couple is trading the 11,000 square feet Mediterranean-style villa for their Buckinghamshire House that rests on an acre of land about an hour outside of London. This 5,680-square-foot includes five bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms. The Osbournes purchased the Buckinghamshire House––officially called Welders––back in 1993. Their house is a national historical location from the late 1800s.
Why Are The Osbournes Leaving Hollywood?
The couple claims the taxes are too high in Los Angeles, so they are heading home. Ozzy also made a statement to The Guardian saying, "Everything's ridiculous there [LA]. I'm fed up with people getting killed every day," he continues with, "It's just time for me to come home."
The Osbournes aren't the only celebrities who are fleeing the high-tax state. Mark Wahlberg also listed his Beverly Hills home for $87 million because of the high taxes. Wahlberg is moving to Las Vegas on 2.5 acres of land. The actor spent about $14.5 million on the land and said Vegas is going to be Hollywood 2.0.
Other celebrities, including Post Malone, Calvin Harris, and Chris Hemsworth, have swapped in the fast-paced culture of LA for a more recluse, low-key lifestyle.
Post Malone moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, to create an "apocalypse hideout." The "Sunflower" singer recently had a baby with his girlfriend and resides in Utah with both of them.
Calvin Harris purchased a farm and moved to the Spanish Island of Ibiza––the farm will produce wine, eggs, vegetables, and a host of other organic products. Chris Hemsworth left LA and moved back to his home country Australia. The star splurged and bought a patch of land, and built an $11 million home from the ground up.
After finding themselves in the spotlight in recent years, it's not a big surprise the Osbournes are leaving, but it is a surprise they are selling their property.
Sharon Osbourne Leaving The Talk
Sharon Osbourne has been gracing the TVs of people since the 2000s. She was on the show The Osbournes, which followed her family's life. She was also a judge on The X Factor, America's Got Talent, and a host of the daytime talk show The Talk.
Osbourne had been on The Talk for 11 seasons. However, she announced she announced her exit from the show after speaking out about Piers Morgan's comments regarding Meghan Markle in a 2021 episode.
After the episode aired where comments made by Osbourne ended in a verbal argument with Sheryl Underwood, another host, she announced her departure.
She wrote, "To anyone of color that I offended and/or to anyone that feels confused or let down by what I said, I am truly sorry," she continued with, "I panicked, felt blindsided, got defensive, and allowed my fear and horror of being accused of being racist to take over."
Ozzy Osbourne And His Health Battle
In June, Ozzy Osbourne underwent "a life-saving surgery." Osbourne was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2019 and previously suffered health issues. He sustained a neck injury in 2003 from a quad biking accident and a fall in 2019 that injured his back.
After having the surgery, which Sharon said would "decide the rest of his life," Ozzy gave his first interview with Good Morning America. There, he stated, "Since I've had the surgery, I've improved quite considerably," he continued by saying he can hold his head up, where he used to hunch over before the surgery.
He praises his family and their support: "My family have been absolutely wonderful while I've been laid up."
In May, Kelly Osbourne––Sharon and Ozzy's daughter––announced her pregnancy with Slipknot's Sid Wilson. Kelly lives in London along with her brother Jack Osbourne and his kids––Jack announced his diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2013.
The matriarchs of the family are believed to be headed back to London for some much-needed family time.
After a battle of controversies, health issues, and the tax, the Osbournes will return to our TVs. They were originally on MTV as a family but haven't had a show with all of them together since 2009.
They will be on a show titled Home to Roost, a docuseries showcasing Ozzy and Sharon's return to the UK. It will focus on the two starting afresh in the countryside, their kids, Kelly and Jack, and their grandkids.
Fans of the family will be able to watch the show on BBC One in the UK and on iPlayer in the US. The series description reads, "As they celebrate one of their most important years yet––with everything from Sharon's 70th birthday to Kelly's soon-to-be-born baby, Ozzy's tour, and of course, the big move itself."
Though they may be leaving America, they won't be leaving our screens.
